I have been employed for about a year and a half by a small CPA firm and am a year into my MBA program. My firm isn't footing the bill for school and I am planning to jump ship shortly after I complete the program. Since I have an undergraduate in finance, I'm not eligible to sit for the CPA exam yet, nor will I be when I finish my MBA, however, I only need to complete four accounting classes to complete before I am eligible to sit for the exam. I can take the accounting classes while in my program, but it will add another year to complete the coursework.
My firm isn't exactly on the fast track and the morale is incredibly low, which is very frustrating. Busy season isn??t the culprit for the low morale; it??s been that way since I started. The CPA license would be beneficial, but I don't know if I can hang on that long (especially paying for grad school with my small salary).
Should I start looking outside the industry since the desire to stay in public accounting isn??t there? Or should I hang on for the 1.5-3(?) years it would take to finish my MBA and accounting courses to satisfy the exam requirements?
