In Reply To: Well, my problem is that I never did an internship while in college. I passed the CPA exam, but can't find employment with a CPA firm in the NYC area where I am located. I am thinking that a masters in accounting from a decent school will help me find an auditing position with a large accounting firm assuming my grades are excellent. It will also reduce the work experience requirement to one year. I want to be licensed as soon as possible. But an MBA might be a better investment because I don't plan on working in public accounting my entire career. However, I heard it is difficult to gain audit experience with an MBA.
Message: I am currently employed with a "Big 4 " accounting firm. I agree with the author that says a MA for the short-term and an MBA for the long-term. I have been in public accounting for 3 years. My Masters in Accounting is great for the technical aspect of the job, which is very important at the beginning of your accounting career. However, I think the broad based management skills that I learned while studying for my MBA in Finance is better for my future employment potential.
