Throughout college I struggled with dyslexia but with intensive theory overcame the obstacle. I graduated from Hofstra University (BBA in accounting) about a year ago with a low GPA 2.7. My ability to perform academically had greatly improved during my senior year and after graduation I passed all four parts of the CPA exam on the first try. I understand my situation is dim with regard to finding employment as an auditor in a major CPA firm. And because it is incredibly difficult for someone in my circumstances to find employment with a reputable CPA firm I have decided to seek a career alternative, ultimately in commercial banking.
With the help of an excellent GRE score I have been accepted to New York University??s graduate MA in financial economics program. However, since I already passed the exam I would like to receive a NY state CPA license. My question is where should I seek employment to satisfy the necessary work experience to receive a CPA license in New York State? Also, if I obtain a master of arts in financial economics and take a couple of graduate accounting courses will that reduce the work experience to one year?
Thank you, I greatly appreciate your advice.

In one of your message posts you explained you used a mitigating strategy to upset a problem GPA that was done by obtaining a masters degree and specializing in a particular field. And through by this acquisition of special skills you were able to find employment in one of the big 4 accounting firms.
I hope you might be able to give me some advice because my situation is not well. Graduating with a weak GPA during a time of industry crisis and a down business cycle has been a significant barrier against my pursuit in finding a position with any decent accounting firm, even with having the CPA exam under my belt. At this point in time I do not want a masters in taxation. So I??ve decided to pursue an MA in financial economics starting this summer at NYU as a part-time student. Originally I planned on obtaining a degree in financial economics after already being established a few years as a CPA, but since I am wasting time not being employed in public accounting I think I??m going to pursue it now while working as a staff accountant for a small business. Would a high GPA in a graduate economics program give me a chance at being hired as an auditor in a big four accounting firm? I am aware that there are departments within the big 4 where the combination of accounting and strong mathematical skills would be useful.
Thank you, I really appreciate your advice.
