Hi, I am an undergrad senior in accounting and internal auditing and I'd really like to know how good you have to be to get hired by the Big 4.
So far, I am doing okay in school (GPA 3.8/4.0) but it seems that that's not enough... is there any possibility for people that are not in business fraternities to get into the big 4? Is it important to have a good GPA?
thank you |

I agree with all the folks who say GPA has nothing to do with it - I've never had a GPA above 3.0 in accounting or the other two degrees I have - in addition I am older (36 when I changed careers.
When I interview candidates I look for confidence - not arrogance - and evidence of the ability to perform critical thinking. Some people with 4.0 GPAs do not have critical thinking skills.
I would rather hire enthusiasm (coupled with technical ability) and communication skills than GPA. It's like passing the CPA exam - believe me, no one ever asks you what your scores were once you pass.
