Please pardon the intrusion, I am a Pace University student taking an Accounting five year BBA/MBA course. To tell you the truth I picked accounting not because ??I like it?? but because I am constantly re-assured this profession virtually guarantees employment.
I have no Idea what kind of work this is, and will only find out by a summer internship if I am lucky. It is a bit too late in my standing to change majors and I am wondering if any accountants are happy, what kind of work is this? Do you make good money (forget the starting salaries)? What is life like, do you come into work, and sit at a desk for nine hours a day (like my CS internship reminds me of).
Switching from computers to business, I am in a very unfamiliar landscape; can anyone tell me anything of this profession, from your own perception?
Pun intended.
Thx :)

I went from a healthcare career into accounting. I love accounting. This is definately something you do not want to do unless you enjoy story problems and logic (the stature of math in accounting is overrated.
I have the best of both worlds in that for a while I have worked in healthcare accounting as a cost accountant, financial analyst, and controller, before I went Big 4 in healthcare industry. I do stay sometimes in the office for a while, however I get antsy if too long - I enjoy unraveling problems with clients.
