In Reply To: I'm ready because I'm moving to a new, expensive major city, DC, and need to start making money to pay the rent! I can't expect to live off of graduation money for too long. Plus, I've heard that those that start later in the summer usually end up getting their start dates pushed back to the fall, and I wouldnt want that. Also, will it really be difficult to take, say, a week off in December during the holidays to possibly vist family out-of-state and maybe take a cruise with a friend? June to December seems like a long enough time to wait to take a vacation, isn't it?
Message: pretty much shuts down during the week of xmas to New Year. In fact, the firm will "encourage" you to charge your time to vacation rather than "available" if your project shuts down, which in my experience, almost all do. So no worries about a break. In general, don't be shy about using your vacation time. That is what it is there for. It is also nice to build up a bank of this time. Very useful as a "severance" tool just in case things take a turn for the worst, you go back to school, etc.
