In Reply To: The first 2 years at ACN most people do mostly IT stuff (config, coding, testing, maybe some design). After a while you get to lead a small team of a few people. Later you get some more responsibility and over time your skills branch out and you gain technical, business/process and management experience. Where I think many ACN people get caugh up is they leave afer 2-3 years and all they've ever done is the IT work. They don't get the chance to develop any of the other skill sets. In the past 3 years I've had ACN buddies get offers or leave to do internal accounting for a utility, risk management for a commercial bank, credit risk management for a trading company, marketing strategy for an ad firm, IT strategy for an energy firm, sales for corporate financial services, sales for industrial chemicals as well as several graduate degrees. All these people joined ACN right out of undergrad and they all had 4-7 years of ACN experience that prepared them for their next job. The conventional wisdom is to leave before you get type-cast as an IT only guy. In reality it appears if you leave to early IT is the only thing you have to offer.
Message: Unless your offer is with Accenture Strategy, go to ZS Associates. You will be doing much more meaningful work at a much more respectable firm.
