Attention to basic details is necessary for success whatever you do. Networking isn't just face-to-face although it helps of course. Make use of e.g. Fridays at the office - walk around, introduce yourself and find out what people do. Attend all meetings and social functions. Volunteer for internal tasks nobody wants - organize e.g. a Christmas party. If you're only focused on your immediate tasks and don't look beyond, you won't get anywhere. Become a member of an interest group, be a subject matter expert, use the phone and emails to keep in touch. If you have a specific job- or client-related question and your supervisor doesn't know the answer - either he or somebody else in your team will know who to contact - another node in your network. The guy may even be in a different country - but you get a response and have a name to refer to. I've been in contact with people from all over the world who I hardly ever saw - and we did massive things together.

Or does the team size purely depend on the project size ? To what extent can you utilize these contacts you've networked with while at ACN after you exit ACN ? Or does any of your IP / contract preclude that ?
