I don't recommend rolling up the shirts. I put mine in the "hanging bag" thingy that fits in the lid of the suitcase. They still get wrinkled, so when I unpack them I hang them in the bathroom and turn on the shower - hot water only. That usually straightens out the wrinkles in about ten minutes.
Yes - put your socks in the shoes. Don't take heavy sweaters - they take up too much real estate.
Have a good pair of black pants that you can wear more than once - nobody will notice.
Checking your baggage is a major pain.

make sure your suitcase is no bigger than the 24" ... that's the biggest that'll fit in overhead.
also...shoes are the killer. Wear the dress shoes on travel day and pack tennis shoes....usually they can be squished more easily.
