In fact, your advice, as facetious as it might have been, is actually not bad advice. The Accenture way is cetainly not the generally accepted way of doing things out in the real world. It's not exactly logical. You need to spend a few beer or reefer or beer n' reefer nights (or some other socializing situation where drinks are served) with your team mates who can explain the ropes to you.
If you're older (pushing 30) your maturity level may have passed the beer n' reefer night bizniz, but at least let one or two of the much younger than you team members go out for a drink with you (unless that person is your supervisor). It comes out better when one of your work mates explains, than when someone official within ACN tries to spin an explanation to you.
