If someone ran a poll asking people which side of the sky the sun rose each morning and the results were that 60% of them considered "the sun rises in the west", would that make it true? Well, if you were not from Earth and you heard about the poll, and that poll was the only one available (which means, not very scientific), them maybe you could excused for not knowing better, because you'd have no evidence to the contrary.
But, duh-uh!! The elephant is standing RIGHT HERE in the room. You don't need to be given a report to tell you that the room is on fire. You can see it for yourself.
