You said "In my experience, the immaturity is not always on the part of the young manager. Often the older employee, under the impression that simply because of their age they are superior to everyone else, is uncooperative and tries to undermine the manager."
This is not true. The older employer is under the impression that, simply because he has more experience and has more skills and maturity, that he is more experienced and has more skills. He would be right in that impression. As far as what rank is based on at ACN is concerned, it's simply based on how many months of ACN experience a person has. The unskilled kid, barely 4 or 5 years out of college is under the impression that, just because he has more months of ACN experience than the experienced guy who has only 12 months ACN experience (but 12 years experience outside Accenture) that he is superior to his more experienced coworker. The company adds to this delusion by giving the junior guy a senior sounding title like "manager" or "executive" (give me a break!!).
But, in the end, that's why these young, immature kids like Accenture. It strokes their egos.
I think it's pathetic of you to prejudge someone simply based on how many months of ACN experience he has.

Actually, I think that he does have a point; there are an awful lot of people out there that think age equals skills. This is not always true. The bottom line is that it is very dependent on the individual.
The thing that I have really found with ACN manager which were brought up through the firm is that they all tend to be fine at managing other Accenture folks, but they are very variable at managing non-Accenture folks. Some (the better managers IMHO) are very good at handling people with a different outlook, however others can be very poor.
All of this said, I work with a very wide age range; some of the best folks I have worked with are the youngest and some of the most arrogant and shortsighted have been the older, "more experienced" ones. Your milage may vary.
