If you want a graceful entry - lower level in exchange for ease of chargeability, chance to more gradually learn - your offer is fair and robust. If you see yourself as a manager - and an experienced one at that - your level is too low. It is a trade-off. If you impress all - you are sure to get promoted in 2 years time or so to manager. If you don't - well...
You are the only person that really knows if the salary is worth the tradeoff. Think to yourself "will this bump in pay make up for the fact that I will travel every single week for the foreseable future (factoring in the inevitable 12 hour delay on a Thursday night)." If the answer is yes - the salary is worth it. You should never want to feel underpaid in consulting. The acid-churning deadlines and grinding travel demand a higher-level of compensation.
