In Reply To: I think, having made the decision to come over to ACN and, now, finding yourself here, you need to justify to yourself why you are here. I can't really sugarcoat this for you. Accenture is going to staff you wherever they need you, regardless of your interests and prior experience. Their decisions will definitely have an impact on the direction your career goes over the next few years and in the years after you leave the company. The only way to take control over the situation is to increase your horizons beyond the boundaries of the company and look elsewhere. You can try being vocal with your HR person or being open with your career counselor or making a strong argument about how to better place you or letting people know what your desires are. But none of these things will do much good. You must do what you need to do for yourself. Accenture won't do it. It's just no in their interests.
Message: I partly disagree. If you come further in your ACN career it is possible to steer where you are posted. Just get a network of smgrs/SE! They can give you more detail what is going on in your group. Also SHOW your preferences, don't be a pain in the ass but just say where you think you are good in and what you want to do. Also try to get trainings on these subjects so that you become a sort of expert... later..
