opportunities to pocket money. You'll learn how to do it. For example, if you charge a taxi but park in economy parking you can pocket $50.00 per week minimum. Multiply that by at least 40 weeks on the road.
Everyone has their little tricks.
Also, lots of hotels put out free food for breakfast and dinner. Pocket your per diem (legally you can do this) but eat free food. You can add at least $100.00 per week. It adds up.
If you have a family, the travel is the pits. It will become an intolerable grind. But - there are advantages. We never have to pay for a vacation/plane ticket, etc. That adds up to thousands upon thousands of dollars each year of untaxed benefits.
Accenture is a lousy culture - not that much different from any large consulting firm - but I have found as an experienced hire that the pay is really good. So I'm in it for the money. If the money is worth having a fractured home life, do it. If not - don't do it. Don't expect good mentoring, etc. It is all up to you to make your own network and live and die by that network. Raises are very political but decent so long as you play the game with a modicum of success. It is all who you know...but even if you don't know that many people, you can still do ok.
