Ok, so I glanced at your post. Yes, it can be stressful but be smart about it. Build a case for your manager saying why certain things are not really needed. If you can't handle this, get out, consulting is not for you. Learn the game and you'll be fine. Add some humor to your day, laughter is good medicine.
2003, I was working on a client that ACN wanted to turn into a diamond client. We started with 5 people and grew the proj to well over 75. Late nights and weekend work with no travel were the norm. Everyone was complaning so we actually took the initiative to call the toll-free Nurse/Help/Psycho line to complain!!! Hilarious I tell you. Prob not so funny anymore as it is prob one level under prank calling 911 but it got us through the day. |

Building a case and telling your manager how bad things are...you are better off talking to the wall.
Death Marches are not put together by Managers, they are put together by overly eager SEs who are trying to cram 10 pounds of crap into a 5 pound sack. They will say they were in 'Sell Mode' which means they told the client what they wanted to hear.
The managers are merely the henchmen/messengers who mostly neither have the wits nor the balls to stand up to the SEs to tell them they are full of crap. And even if they did, its too late because the agreements have already been signed and any back-talking from the ranks will get a swift kick in the arse (Read: Sustained Low - not a team player).
From my experience its a fairly simple choice: You either suck it up and take it or you don't...I've taken each of these paths on different engagements. The results can range from glorious to horrific. You need to be able to judge the outcomes. Good luck and Take Care.
