In Reply To: First talk to your immediate supervisor on the project - but don't just complain, provide one or more possible solutions, e.g. you could - take on more responsibility in line with your experience on that project - train a (much cheaper) analyst to fill your position and move on to other, better work there or a different project. For either scenario you should have a workable plan, don't just tell him/her they should find you a better role. You should define that role upfront and have an excellent understanding how this would advance quality, schedule, ... whatever, on that specific project, if you fill that role. Changing OGs is an involved process, both have to agree and if nobody really knows you in either OG you may fall between the cracks as a "high-maintenance" guy who isn't satisfied with what he's got and runs around bugging people. Not very desirable.
Message: EX-AP: I wanted to thank you for your sound advice. It has been over a month and a half since you suggested this. Since then I have taken on more responsibility. My supervisor has been very pleased with me and has agreed to bring in one or two analysts under me who can do the mundane tasks that I used to do and is making me move on to better things. Another positive aspect was that he has mentioned to me that he would like to bring me under his OG at the end of my current project because both he and the project partners realize that my skills and expertise can be better utilized in his OG which I feel is a better fit for me than government.
