In Reply To: Short Answer: Yes, you do end up working 1/5 more hours a year or more and, no, you don't get paid for it nor is your base pay higher to make up for it. Long-winded additional comments: I agree with the previous poster who commented how absurd it is to work these long hours without getting paid for it, but if you are one of the owners of the company it's not so absurd since it's a profitable business model. You should know that, even if you work over the 120% for a period, you may not get any OT pay. When you go over the OT threshold, you are often asked not to put all those hours on your timesheet. ("We gave you 100 hours to complete that 115 hours of work we gave you. Why did it take you 112 hours to do it!?!? Don't put down more than 100. That's all the client has budgeted for this period.") In those cases when the over 120% hours are approved, you are usually asked to spread them over more than one pay period. So if you work 118 hours one, 88 hour, period and 100 hours in the next 88 hour period, you are asked to take 6 hours off of the 118 hour week and put it into the 100 hour week so that neither week will result in a need to pay OT pay. This is how it's typically done. Also, there is no OT for non-billable work, even tho we often do a lot of it, even when we are staffed. So you can count on a lot of OT, but very little, if any, OT pay. . . and, no, if you work 17% or 20% more than people do at other jobs, you do NOT get 17% more or 20% more base pay. On the other hand, to be fair, you do get that ESPP that pays 15% on your investment. You can contribute up to 10% of your pay each year, so that adds another 1.5% to your compensation. Also, out of town work means taxfree per-diem pay, so there is some extra money there, as well.
