What you say is mostly true, although Avanade is not a "department" of ACN. It's a separate company that ACN has a 50% stake in. It definitely accounts for a measurable amount of revenue for ACN (just like ATS, which is also a separate company, brings in money).
You are correct that Microsoft's stake in this (they own the other 50%) is to push and evangelize the Microsoft line of products (and, of course, to make money).
It's similar to Accenture in the sense that it's mostly very young people working there, including the supervisors, team leads and managers. |

Thanks for the clarification, though when I knew people that used to work there, they made it seem like it was just another "department" at accenture because they had a lot of cross projects and resources going on between the companies since accenture had a heavy investment in the company. A lot of things at avanade operated similarly to accenture, just that everything was focused on microsoft technologies. In fact, i know there was often talk of accenture absorbing some of the work that was going on there. I realize that it is a separate entity. I imagine the culture at avanade might be quite different these days.
