In Reply To: dear panic, will start with mck in a couple of weeks and can perfectly understand (and would likewise recommend) your decision for mck. would like to share some experience from a friend though (who is a mck-spouse with a, at time of start 2 year old child) since her husband has been working with mck, she has been living a single mother life in all aspects. their relationship (which takes place during the weekends, obviously) is barely existent. all the leftover time is devoted to the child. her husband is so tired all weekend though that he has problems giving the child the attention it needs. this was when the child is 2 yrs old. since, the first couple of months, your child wont sleep through the nights, you wont get any of it either during the weekends. plus, your wife/girlfriend will ahve to do all the "getting up" during the week and will expect you to do it on the weekends (i would do so, at least) i think there is always a way of coping, and things can work out well. it also depends very much on what you girlfriend/wife is doing and is wanting to do in the future (work, study etc.) i feel though that its important to know for both of you that she will be very limited in all her decisions/plans for the future and should be prepared for a single mother life for the time you stay with any consulting firm. the thing that struck me most about what my friend told me is the fact that she never expected nor imagined things to be and become like this. and that if she would have known, she wouldnt have let him do the job. its a difficult situation, i guess: just wanted to give you some input from a girl's perspective. good start at mck and good luck for all the rest!
Message: Go with McK. Even if it's only for a year or two, you are shutting so many doors by walking away from this. How the hell did you end up with an offer in this mindset?
