In Reply To: First, going for an analyst internship would not be a good idea since you'd be performing at a level well below the job you want. Interning at the analyst level would not get you the exposure you need nor would it set you up for full time recruiting - it would basically blow up your whole application process. There aren't that many MBA internships in consulting. M/B/B run small MBA intern programs and ACN carries a few strat interns, but they recruit late and the risk of not getting an offer is high. What a lot of people do is get a summer internship in marketing or industry finance, but also inerview for consulting internships as a means to secure a position in the fall for full time recruiting. Another item to consider is ACN has several different practices & some are more appropriate for an MBA than others. Strategy and business consulting are obvious fits for a Top 25 MBA. Strategy does work similar to M/B/B and business consulting does projects similar to Deloitte or Booz's WTB. The IT consuling group does good work, but its more technical and an MBA seems to have less value to them - and therefore is not reflected in compensation. So be careful about the group with which you're interviewing.
Message: I know that I am over-qualified for this. I had 5 years of working experience in the miltary, but none in consulting. However, all I want to do is to get into Consulting, especially the strategy group in Accenture. This is kinda a risky plan. I will end up doing some works as an undergrad. However, I will also consider that this way is best to "sell myself" by showing them how good I can do the work. My question is: What can MBA do in IT Consulting? How easy is it to switch to the strategy and biz development group?
