is 46k enough to manage in the DC metro area? given the cost of living in the area, would it be possible to rent my own apartment?
any suggestions on reasonably-priced apartments in arlington or alexandria?

I think if you want to live in arlington or alexandria you're going to need a roommate to live within your budget.
