There are periods where it is much higher during critical phases of a project. But I would say this is the average b/c there are many weeks where it is below 50 hours/week.
I would also say I don't work more or less than An/Con, rather about the same and it may not be visible to my team. For example, I will work harder in creating a team organization and the planning components than an actual execution b/c that is my job. To plan the work and provide direction. Now, this work can be more solo and may not be as visible to An/con/NMGR, but that doesn't mean I'm not working longer hours.
So I would say its more or less, but my peak in hours may not correlate directly to the peak hours for my team.
I think Manager have a little more flexibility to dictate their schedule for time awaay. While it may not be true in all cases, I believe the thought process would be a MGR and above knows when they need to work and when they can take time away. The An/Con levels are the proving grounds to show you can do that.
I may get blasted for that comment, and I may not necessarily believe it, but I think that is pretty much how it works in reality

The higher you get the more you may find yourself in situations where you work for several clients (and partners) concurrently. Plus you have prospective clients, meet with them and work on proposals. And you may have some responsibility for an internal project on the side.
All of them think they own you exclusively ... resulting in major overtime.
But that is where the fun really is - you don't even think of your option to say "No" because it actually is quite a ride being able to juggle several levels of involvement and parallel responsibilities.
I've never seen somebody at my former level or up who complained about the usual "Excellent steering committee meeting! Let's meet back at the office at 10 pm and plan how we work that into that new proposal, then we'll have the conference call with the overseas guys at 11:30 and can finalize the estimate afterwards - oh, I've just received that RFP here, can you review it and give me your take on what we can do with them tomorrow morning at 9:00 so we can work it into the presentation for the OG head at 10?"
