In Reply To: There are periods where it is much higher during critical phases of a project. But I would say this is the average b/c there are many weeks where it is below 50 hours/week. I would also say I don't work more or less than An/Con, rather about the same and it may not be visible to my team. For example, I will work harder in creating a team organization and the planning components than an actual execution b/c that is my job. To plan the work and provide direction. Now, this work can be more solo and may not be as visible to An/con/NMGR, but that doesn't mean I'm not working longer hours. So I would say its more or less, but my peak in hours may not correlate directly to the peak hours for my team. I think Manager have a little more flexibility to dictate their schedule for time awaay. While it may not be true in all cases, I believe the thought process would be a MGR and above knows when they need to work and when they can take time away. The An/Con levels are the proving grounds to show you can do that. I may get blasted for that comment, and I may not necessarily believe it, but I think that is pretty much how it works in reality
Message: So if you work 50 hours per week average, and if you put down 40 all the time, how do your Sr Mgrs/Sr Execs see that you are working your butt off.. Also, what would be difference between New Manager and Exp Manager like yourself? I mean in term of responsiblities? I am coming as new manager, and I am glad to read that there is a little more flexibility (as long as work is getting done on time and budget) of schedule.. I agree with the points you made about your peak time vs. An/Con peak times.
