I have recently graduated with my masters in engineering and am considering an offer from Accenture. I have some other offers to work as an engineer, but I want to have some variety and travel for my first job. I was wondering if it is possible to go from working at Accenture for say 5 years and then switching jobs and working as an engineer. My consern is that I won't really be doing much engineering work so I will be only considered for manager posistions and not really engineering posistions in 5 years. Please help if you have any insite into this. Also I am assumming that you can not get your P.E. while working for Accenture because it's not 100% engineering work, but please tell me if this is not accurate.
Thank you. I really need some help so I can accept an offer somewhere. |

I worked as a design engineer for a major utility than joined AC's Utility Practice. I got shoved into the old Customer One offering for a while and that was it for engineering. Concerning the P.E. Accenture wont pay for it, and they dont want you to get it because of the associated liability. After 5 years you could go back to engineering, but it would be at an entry level position because you wont be doing anything close to engineering while here. Also though, in most companies after 5-7 years you are expected to move into a management position of some sort. It's not an easy decision, so decide whats important to you, if you want to travel and see some of the US, join Accenture, if you want to be an engineer, choose something different!
