The salaries at each level get reviewed every year and often increase at a reasonably good rate. I believe that a C1 is on about ??40k and a C3 on ??55k. This September a C1 might be on - at a guess - ??42k. (Although, of course, someone who is a C1 currently will be a C2 in September so be on about ??50k.)
The tiny adjustment is added to this, based on your performance rating for the year leading up to this. So (and these are all guesses as to the salary, but in the right area) let's say your basic Sustained C1 is on ??42k this September. A High Sustained C1 might be on ??42,200 and an Outstanding C1 might be on ??43,000. |

okay, that makes sense, and is somewhat comforting (that yearly increases are decent)...
however, given the tiny performance adjustment there doesn't seem to be a lot of incentive to strive to be a tiger...? is that true, or is there some other way that outstanding and exceptional ratings are rewarded?
In the US a sustained might get a 6% raise whereas an exceptional might get a 13% raise...so the incentive is more significant...
