In Reply To: "Once you leave, everybody at ACN will have forgotten about you in a week and don't believe all this BS about "you never know who you might run into later". It's self-serving blabber. " You may try to convince yourself of that, but it's absolutely not true. I received a call the other day from a senior manager I hadn't spoken with in 2 years. He found out through the grapevine that I was at business school and had applied to a certain summer internship. It just so happens that his sister is an MD at that company, so he put in a call on my behalf. Burning bridges is the stupidest thing you can do in today's corporate world.
Message: It is a SMALL world. -I work on a project 5 states away, with people from 4 states away who know former co-workers from my previous job. -One of leaders in my group has a similar name to a previous manager and used to receive his email. -I interviewed at my last company with a guy that turned out to know friends of my parents. Not the greatest examples in the worls, but if this board is any indication, people switch jobs and projects so often you will ALMOST DEFINITELY see multiple people you know every year. If you plan to stay in consulting - or technology, never burn your bridges. Oh - and DEFINITELY have your shit packed and ready to go when you hand over your resignation letter. I have seen several managers get their feelings hurt and have security escort the former employee out.
