Does anyone have any advice for MBA applicants?
Is it better to apply without letting anyone know internally? If so, does it hurt your application not to have an internal letter of recommendation?
Who do you talk to about it?
What do you do if you don't get in?
Thanks |

I really can't see an MBA doing the kind of work we do here, unless he was looking for a career change. I know there's a small management consulting department hidden around the company somewhere and I think they use MBAs. But what I heard about it is that, among real management consulting firm, it's not looked at as an equal. Besides, it not a significant part of our business, which is computer services, tech support and IT outsourcing.
I was on a gig with an experienced hire who had an MBA. He came in as a senior consultant (and he had an attitude about not being made "manager" right away). He just didn't fit in. He had all these ideas in his head he had to unlearn. Also, I can't see how studing accounting, statistics, management, marketing, etc. is going help you develop IT applications. Sure, if it's a marketing application or a financial application or something, maybe knowing the lingo of "debits" and "covered options" may come in slightly handy. But is it worth going to school for two years to learn a couple of vocabulary words that any analyst can learn right on the job at the client?
