Message Name: Not sure if this is the right job for an MBA

In Reply To: We don't use MBAs in our main line of business, IT services. On the other hand, the strat group of the small business consulting group uses MBAs. So does the back office support group, "enterprise services" (internal finance, payroll, HR, internal IT support, marketing, etc.). However, with your background, you're a bit overqualified to work in either area. Why not try a bank or investment house?
Message: I really can't see an MBA doing the kind of work we do here, unless he was looking for a career change. I was on a gig with an experienced hire who came in as a senior consultant (and he had an attitude about not being made "manager" right away). He just didn't fit in. He had all these ideas in his head he had to unlearn. Also, I can't see how studing accounting, statistics, management, marketing, etc. is going help you develop IT applications. Sure, if it's a marketing application or a financial application or something, maybe knowing the lingo of "debits" and "covered options" may come in slightly handy. But is it worth going to school for two years to learn a couple of vocabulary words that any analyst can learn right on the job at the client?
