In Reply To: I will be starting at accenture feb 13th. I am interested in hearing from those analysts etc that attended the core analyst school in st. louis and what exactly to expect for the two weeks. I am interested in what knowledge you get from the training (valuable etc). Also, what sort of connections, events, bonding etc they have through accenture. thanks!
Message: Core analyst "school" isn't really school. It's just a two week orientation to Accenture and a little bit of a seque from being a 20 year-old college kid to being a 21 year old who has to modify his behavior (during the day, at least) and work at a client during the day. We basically learned how to walk and talk and sound and look like an Accenture resource. We got some opportunity to work as a group and become part of an larger than ourselves, homegeneous entity. Sure, there was some hands-on stuff to do in some of the modules during the week, but it wasn't anything that we would use outside of the "training." It was more a way to teach us how work on a task collectively, in a group. It's true that we work for a computer services company, but the two weeks aren't about learning how to become a computer programmer or a techinical analyst. It's about getting prepared to work in a group at clients. A lot of it is fun. Don't take it too seriously, but do be aware that higher-ups are watching you. If you can impress someone here, then you have learned a skill that will come in handy during the next 3 or 4 years while you are working here. At night there is a lot of partying and you can go into Chicago, if you want (at your own expense). You live in a dorm, just like college, and there is even a replica of a real ratskeller with beer and loud music (just like college) on the St. Chux "campus." I went back in the summer of 2004. I haven't had any training since then (other than a CBT CD they gave me to study), but there is little time for training (even going to class at night, at your own expense, is pretty much impossible). Once you get busy on a client gig, that becomes your life. There wasn't anything technical or career enhancing that I brought back from St. Chux. But it was a fun way to start my job at Accenture.
