I will be working at the Reston office and was wondering whether it would be best to live IN DC and drive through the city to client locations, or live OUT of DC (in a neighboring city in VA) and drive into the city for client locations? Which would be more traffic/bothersome? |

It depends on the client as alot of client work is performed at the Reston office and alot of clients have VA offices. I'm staffed at a client (USPS) that has a DC office.
Personally it makes alot more sense to me to live in VA and commute in that it does to live in DC. If you live in VA you'll be able to drive/bus to a Metro station and take that into DC. The reverse isn't true in all cases. Anywhere in DC is near a Metro for the most part, but everything in VA is not near a Metro (like the Reston office for example).
The one good thing about living in DC and working in VA would be that your commute would be fairly easy once you got out of DC as you'd be going in the opposite direction as everyone else. However, then you have to find a place to park your car in the city. Not every apartment comes with a parking spot, and of those apartments that have parking spots, some of them charge extra for the parking spot.
You can make either work, as I have a number of friends that live in DC, and quite a few that live in MD... but personally I think living in VA is easier.
