In Reply To: Hey everyone, I am new to the consulting message board. I see so many posts about recruiting through campus programs. I graduated in 2004 with a Finance degree. I am thinking about a transition to management consulting. Currently, I am in financial services. I did not graduate from a target school, rather state school. How would I go about getting interviews with top-tier companies? Is it a matter of tailoring a resume and cover letter specific to firms within the industry or are top tier firms (Mckinsey, BCG, BOH) pretty selective? Thanks in advance.
Message: but here are my two cents. If you want a top-flight firm, such as BCG, McK, I would not even try without a top-flight school. They get so many applicants from the top schools they have no need to even look at lower-tier schools. Varies a bit more with senior hires, though. As far as Accenture, I have met some grads from prestigious schools, but LOTS of people from state schools. So they will definitely look at you, though I can't say for what buzz-words they have the HR filters set on when you send in your resume. In my opinion, any top-tier undergrad worth their salt will not wind up at Accenture - we tend to get the history majors rather than the Wharton finance majors. Go ahead, all, throw your stones at me, IMHO.
