In Reply To: I have some first hand experience on working with a large team of Chinese, and they are nice people. But they cannot get anything that requires any level of independent thinking done, not even with plenty of support in different forms. Also, English language is a huge issue. I am hearing that this is also due to the school system, as was mentioned in that article regarding the problems in India. Also, the prices don't end up being that cheap when you need to have a number of Western people to support the team, coach them and finally actually do the work when the locals don't get it done and the client is getting nervous...
Message: I have to say, I agree with all of the post on this thread. I used to work for McAfee as a Senior PA. We took on many indian hires. I can't really speak to the economics of the situation...whether having H1 workers was a cost savings, I imagine it was. What I can speak to was their level of ability. Many were not good performers, lacking core "get it done" skills, creativity, problem solving ability, poor language skills, etc.. While I am no reactionary, far from it, I can tell you from my ecperience the indian, and chinese workers I have worked with were not as good as many of the american workers I have worked with. It is a sham to say they are better or more skilled. India and china may be graduating more technologists, but they are no better than americans of the same educational and experiental background, often they are worse.
