In Reply To: I am an experienced manager who joined ACN about 14 months ago and gained exceptional ratings . However, I am concerned that lack of "Accenture" experience (knowing the right people, participation in people/community activities) is hindering my prospects for a promotion to Sr Mgr. It takes a couple of years to build that kind of positioning. It appears that for Sr Mgr and SE levels promotions, experienced hires are at a clear disadvantage compared to old timers, regardless of their capability due to lack of "Accenturization". I see a lot of good insights from ACN veterans on this board. Any thoughts on this? It would help aspiring "experienced manager candidates" decide whether its best to wait and join as a Sr. Mgr instead of taking up an Manager level position and being stuck with this barrier.
Message: D.Marone I am going to be joining Accenture as "new manager". I have heard (from a manager who is a close friend of mine) that it takes minimum of 3 years for a Sr. Mgr promotion (for new manager). This is based on performance, of course. Now since they hired you as an "experienced manager" (with 12 months credit - I am assuming), your turn should come probably next September (Sep 2007). I agree that me and you are at disadvantage since we were not "brought up" at Accenture. But either we can wait or go to a smaller niche consulting company (as example one of my friends joined Delloite as Manager in 2001, he was not promoted to sr mgr so he went to Sapient as sr mgr).. Now how has your experience been so far with Accenture? Do you get a lot of freedom (to get the right analysts, consultants on the project)? Also how was your first raise and variable pay bonus? Do you have Any suggestions for me? (I am looking to start end of Feb). Thanks.
