any DOs/DON'Ts, things to consider/watch-out for before submitting resignation?

Like anc01 I left for bschool and actually worked w/ my project on the schedule several months in advance. I was leading a workstream w/ high visibility and the transition was very important. Plus since my manager had written a rec lettet for my MBA I felt I owed something.
I left on my terms and w/ good feelings. In fact I was given an offer to come back w/ a very significant increase in salary and level. I was also able to cultivate those relationships to get interviews w/ some other companies.
Don't burn bridges since you may need to get back to the other side of the river.
