$54K with no experience is very good! You can live well in the DC-metro area on that. That means, you can rent you own place without having to have a roommate.
Now, will you be able to afford a house here and drive a luxury sports car? No! Houses (and I mean a dump!) start at around $450,000 inside the Beltway (which is where Yuppies want to be anyway) and about $350,000 outside the Beltway. My friend just paid $300,000 for a 900 SQ FT condo. Just keep that in mind that this place is expensive. But the salary is not bad.
