In Reply To: Thanks olli for speaking out. As someone who has been sexually harassed by a Senior Manager, I 100% agree with what you said. After being harassed several times by the Senior Manager I reported to, I talked to the Partner on the client site, who immediately pulled in HR. I did everything that I was supposed to do: I had written documentation of all the incidents and even witnesses. HR pulled in the Senior Manager to talk to him, and he admitted to everything I had written down. You know what the outcome of the investigation was? HR found the Senior Manager guilty, but nothing happened to him. HR told me that they dealt with the situation appropriately, but that they wouldn't tell me what they did to him as it's a "confidential" issue. However, they did say that he would not be fired and in fact, they didn't even roll him off the project/client we were at. I ended up getting restaffed. He probably only had to take training or something - even though the harrassment was reoccuring, there was touching involved, and I approached the Senior Manager on the issue several times before I went to HR. Lesson learned - if you get sexually harassed, HR is not on your side. They are simply puppets of the executives and will do what they say. The only way to handle it is to deal with the harassment right there in front of everyone - kick him where it hurts, yell at him, do whatever to get people's attention and embarass the crap out of him. Then maybe they will learn not to mess with you.
Message: Any attorney would jump on these, without a dime from you. These are very serious cases and could be huge dollars in a settlement. You can kick the company where it really hurts--in their wallets. Some of these cases go nine figures. In addition to the company, the HR and managers could be held personally liable for thier mishandling of your complaints.
