From what I've heard from new campus hires (and experienced hires hired into junior spots), when offer letters are sent out, HR no longer insinuates that OT pay should be expected. This doesn't mean that OT has been eliminated. It just means that OT pay, which you wouldn't get until you work something like 118 hours, should not be expected. The long hours continue. |

When I received my offer, OT was mentioned. In fact, OT was given as a reason for why they were paying me less than EVERY other firm that I received offers from.
It was stated that OT would be paid for each hour after I've worked 20% over 40 hrs in a two week span. So, 80 + 16 (20%) is the threshold, and I'll start earning OT in my 97th hour.
I calculated that If I worked an average 55 hours a week on a a ~50k salary, I would earn an extra 8k per year. But this is unrealistic, especially b/c the contract says that OT policy varies among engagements, so it could be the case that I would rarely receive OT pay.
Not exactly what it is cracked up to be.
