Founded in 1968, TA Associates got its start as part of the Tucker Anthony investment bank. The unit was spun off in 1978, and in 1990, under the direction of current chief executive Kevin Landry, it decided to forego its venture capital business and concentrate exclusively on later-stage leveraged buyouts. Although TA may have shifted its focus over the years, it hasn't changed its primary strategy: the cold call.
