Hippodrome State Theatre
The Hippodrome State Theatre is North Central Floridas premier performing arts producer and only professional theatre within a 120-mile radius. Founded in 1973 by six artists who shared a dream of a producing theatre that is both artistically daring and socially relevant, the Hippodrome has grown to become the centerpiece of the Gainesville historic district and downtown area. The theatres unique facility functions as a performing arts theatre, a media exhibition center, a visual arts gallery, a childrens workshop and performance center, and a film exhibition center. With each year, the Hippodrome strives to bring the best in contemporary and classic works to its stage.
