Responsibilities:
-Perform advanced storage configuration and data protection for servers, LUN configuration, backup configuration, HBA configuration as defined by the requirements.
-Design and configure complex customer orders to provided specifications.
-Tier 3 support of managed Storage Service offerings. Troubleshoot tier 3 issues based on monitoring alerts and customer requests.
-Determine and define requirements for monitoring, management, and metrics tools required to effectively and efficiently handle workload of system types managed by Storage Engineering.
Principal Responsibilities:
-Manage all Storage Engineering hosts, servers, fibre channel switches, tape robots and disk systems. On servers and hosts this includes, but is not limited to, determining the proper O/S configuration, file system layout, O/S kernel, and networking configuration parameters.
-Interpret status and error messages for the NetBackup and TSM operations.
-Design creative and supportable technical solutions to challenging problems, as needed.
-Write thorough technical change plans, as needed.
-Write comprehensive technical procedure documentation, as needed.
-Ensure successful resolution of work within established completion time guidelines with high quality of service.
-Provide accurate and timely documentation of work progress and resolution within trouble ticket tracking system.
Qualifications:
-College degree or equivalent work related experience with a minimum of H.S Diploma or GED required.
-Meet all the requirements of Storage/Tape Engineer.
-Bachelors degree, engineering or scientific major preferred, or industry recognized certification or equivalent strong work experience.
-3 to 5 years experience in data protection and storage management.
-Currency with developments in the data protection and storage management fields and application of those developments in day-to-day work.
-Ability to use the Veritas NetBackup command line interface for both backups and restores; to perform duplication of tapes; and to perform upgrades of Veritas NetBackup and install vendor patches.
-Ability to install, upgrade, and perform high-level support within a TSM backup environment; knowledge of command line, maintenance procedures, and off-site tape management.
-Basic understanding of the backup network architecture
-Understanding of TCP wrappers.
-Understanding of IP Multi-Pathing.
-Ability to classify communications problems as client issues, network issues, or backup server issues.
-Ability to reconfigure network interfaces.
-Understanding of subnets, netmasking, gateways, and routes; and ability to add and delete static routes.
-Ability to use snoop to collect data for troubleshooting.
-Ability to implement transport and media tuning changing using ndd as directed.
-Ability to trace the logical network device to its physical NIC; and to implement and test TCP wrappers as directed.
-Ability to troubleshoot network related problems, including, but not limited to, determining if switch or router is down, if site-to-site circuits are off line, and if NIC on server is down. Basic ability to troubleshoot end-to-end issue, determining correct problem equipment or link.
-Knowledge of OS commands to verify the presence of tape/disk drives.
-Ability to use Web Tools to display Switch and Fabric Status.
-Ability to understand and follow prepared SAN device maps.
-Strong working knowledge of project management and time management techniques.
-Advanced Certification in data production methodologies, such as Veritas Data Protection Specialist or IBM Certified Advanced Deployment Professional - Tivoli Storage Management Solutions 2007.
