Our client, a major biotechnology company seeks an Associate General Counsel who will be responsible for the strategic direction and management of certain corporate litigation, in support of the companyCBCBs goals and objectives. Primary responsibility will include management and supervision of multi-district and class action litigation in the areas of product liability and securities litigation. Responsibilities may also include management of complex commercial litigation, qui tam litigation, state attorney general litigation, and oversight of government investigations. The attorney is expected to manage, direct, and develop strategy for large, high profile litigation; including supervising and managing outside counsel in a cost effective manner. The attorney will be expected to develop and implement optimal legal strategies that minimize risks to the business, while achieving company objectives. The attorney will be responsible for counseling company executives and senior management on complex legal matters, in a constructive and effective manner. Additionally, the attorney will supervise and manage an inhouse attorney. Domestic travel and the potential for international travel is involved.
The ideal candidate will have a background in mass tort product liability litigation, class actions, and complex commercial litigation. A minimum of fifteen (15) years as a licensed, practicing attorney is required as well as an active license to practice law in any state in the U.S. The candidate must have experience in all aspects of trial preparation, as well as trying cases. Experience in preventing and resolving mass litigation is preferred. The candidate must demonstrate an ability to develop innovative and ingenious solutions to situations with little to no precedent. Additionally, the candidate must possess strong negotiation skills and excellent people skills as the position involves regular contact with company executives, clients in all business units and work with attorneys across the Law Department, including paralegals and support staff.
