AOL Internship, where culture, experience, and fun collide.
Beverly Hills, CA | 2012 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

the culture, my team was absolutely amazing and supportive, the constant opportunities for growth in the industry and company, the learning opportunities, etc.

Downers

to be completely honest, there is nothing i didn't like. this was my favorite internship to date.

Advice to Potential Interns

be yourself in the interview and on the job, that will help you out the most. also, have clear goals in mind and be very vocal about what you're looking to get out of the internship.

Advice to Management

maybe offer more training opportunities to interns? i went to Baltimore for Ad.com training because i was very vocal about the opportunity to work at AOL, but maybe present these opportunities to other ambitious interns as well.

I wish the pay was a little bit higher.

AOL R&D is an excellent place for those majoring in EE, CS, and applied statistics to do research in online advertising and social media.

Definitely the people--everyone I have encountered at my time at AOL are nothing but helpful and encouraging.

Downers

Commuting to the location from New Jersey--but only sometimes.

Advice to Potential Interns

I think it would hard to find another digital media company with all of the aspects of AOL.

An Amazing Opportunity to Experience, Learn and Thrive with a Special Company in an Innovative Industry.
New York, NY | 2012 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

experience, knowledge, career building, confidence building, networking, opportunity

Downers

hard getting hire full time because of expense issues

Advice to Potential Interns

take full advantage of every opportunity and never second guess!

Advice to Management

having management be more verbal with everyone. i was in the process of getting hired full time multiple times but was lead on for a few times without many answers for them to give me for a lengthy period of time. i understand this happens but keeping someone up to date and aware can make them comfortable while working everyday.

THE place to intern
New York, NY | 2012 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

The company culture, the responsibility given, the learning experience, the company's employees

Downers

The intern to full time process was lengthy, but not impossible

Advice to Potential Interns

there is no better place to intern then at AOL. Before coming here, I had 4 other internships. I learned more here in my first week then I did in all of my other internships combined.

This was a great opportunity to learn about various aspects of digital media.
New York, NY | 2012 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

Great learning opportunity, many events to network and meet people you don't work with everyday.

Downers

With such a big company, it's a bit harder to get the lay of the land in a short time.

Advice to Potential Interns

This is great company that offers the benefits of a corporate culture with a start-up feel.

Girl Has Awesome Internship Experience in NYC, Doesn't Go Broke Either
New York, NY | 2012 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

I had a great supervisor who was always there anytime I had a question, but was still mostly left to my own devices, lots of creative freedom, lots of opportunities for clips. Free food and drinks! And it paid a liveable wage.

Downers

I honestly can't think of anything.

Advice to Potential Interns

If you feel more comfortable with tons of structure and being directed on what to do next, you might not like it here. I was given guidelines, but it was very much left up to me how I would achieve my aims. It was terrifying for the first two or three weeks, and after that, it was great.

The BEST Internship Post-College
San Francisco, CA | 2012 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

- great perks (dinners, lunch, team outings, nap room, snack room, etc.)
- GREAT people! (AOL houses some of the smartest and brightest people!)
- actual responsibility (this is not an internship to be taken lightly)
- ample opportunity (they cater the internship to what you are most interested in)

Downers

- not a lot of people my own age (mostly people in their 30-40s)

Advice to Potential Interns

You should view this internship almost as a trial period before coming to AOL full-time. Full time hire is definitely possibly, you just have to prove yourself in the internship!

Advice to Management

Honestly, I can't think of much. You can work 40 hours a week (sometimes more), the pay is great! ($19/hr), and employee retention is great too
