A lot of exposure.

I enjoyed working on a project where I defined the scope. 3M does not give busy work.

Downers

The recruitment structure and "competitive" benefits need some serious reconsideration.

Advice to Potential Interns

3M is a very different company because it looks at some many things. The program is great. The housing is just okay.

Advice to Management

Compensation is pretty weak. Flexible hours are available but not well used (probably because of management rejecting the policy). "Millennials" are going to want flexible work schedules. Alternative outside of 5 days/week need to be considered. Right now 3M only has flexibility with start and end times but expect 8hrs/day. Also, vacation benefits need to change if 3M wants to say competitive.

Another huge opportunity is in the recruitment process. 3M is super late on recruitment and there is no way that they are hiring the "best and brightest" because those people got offers 3 months before hearing back from 3M.

HR and intern events are great! The HRs are so nice and professional. They answer our questions with great respect and patience. I really appreciate their help.

Downers

My assigned work is so bad.

My manager is so bad and not professional.

Advice to Potential Interns

If you prefer a good work-life balance, you can choose this company.

If you want to learn new things, do not choose this company.

Advice to Management

Please please carefully choose a manager, who is at least professional.

Great internship program because all interns are in one place, good company with great values though slightly conservative and stingy

My work was appreciated by others and I felt that I made a valuable contribution. All the interns were in one central place which made social life very fun

Downers

The work could be very monotonous and I have no idea why I was paid less than everybody else. The hiring process was not very clear for people seeking full time positions

Advice to Potential Interns

3M is a very ethical company and will be around for many years to come. In addition, many people change job functions so you could work for the same company for 30+ years and have over 8 different jobs in completely different industries while staying in the same company and taking advantage of your network without starting over

Advice to Management

I found out 3 weeks into my internship that I was paid significantly less than other interns in my same job function even though I had equal qualification and an equivalent position. This made me feel slighted and colored my perception of the company as I though equal work should merit equal pay.
