The best aspects of the internship so far is the flexibility of hours. Since I am currently taking classes as well as working, it is difficult to come in during regular business hours. Sybase has allowed me to determine when my hours are so that they better fit the needs of my school schedule. I have gained a ton of experience in my field as well as other fields which are directly related to computer science. I have also throughly enjoyed working with the other employees here, as they have always made me feel welcome.
I live about 15 miles from Sybase so the drive is longer than I would like it to be, especially during rush hour.
Advice to Potential Interns
Be sincere about your abilities. This is not a company where you will be getting coffee for the management 90% of the time. This is serious business where you will gain serious working experience. Be honest about what you can do, and what you would like to learn more about. Sybase is very flexible and can put you in a position to use the abilities you have while allowing you to learn new skills.
Advice to Management
I would suggest a slightly better training program for interns. A lot of the training comes from asking fellow employees questions, but as a new intern other employees can be intimidating. Some sort of partnership where new interns are paired up with current interns in order to have someone to go to would be in my opinion very helpful.
