Capital One Summer Tech Program

4.3 of 5 stars

McLean, VA | 2017 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

Culture, quality and importance of the work I was doing, really great people, new tech, food is good

Downers

Work could be a little more challenging and faster paced (however, it's definitely not slow)

Advice to Potential Interns

It is not just a bank. They definitely have aspects of the tech culture. The atmosphere is comfortable and some teams allow a lot of working from home, which is great if you're not feeling well.

Advice to Management

I felt the diversity training in upper management was lacking. The reason for this is the diversity talk given at an event by someone in senior management was very poor. For new grads they also don't negotiate salary, or at least it's uncommon.

Sample Interview Questions

Know you're object oriented programming and how to structure code well.

Uppers

The intern events and free food, as well as the opportunity to experience working in a corporate environment alongside business

Downers

Some interns had serious issues with their managers

Advice to Potential Interns

If you live in corporate housing, it's a lot easier to make friends with other interns.

Would You Recommend

Play hard, work hard.

4.3 of 5 stars

Richmond, VA | 2017 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

Culture. Cafeterias are REALLY good and really cheap (in Richmond). Big campus. Lots of intern events. Lots of opportunity to do more if you don't like the project you've been assigned. Don't be afraid to ask for something else.

Downers

They don't try their hardest to place you based on your interests, more-so based on your resume which may not be what you want to do. Just complain though and they will move you.

Advice to Potential Interns

We got a lot of advice from previous interns who said to take advantage of every activity and fun event and learning opportunity. I feel that I did this and it really helped to enjoy the internship. This summer went by so fast. Do as much as you can while still having fun!

Advice to Management

Please please please take more into consideration what a potential hire wants to do for work. If you aren't happy when you're working you won't want to come back.

Downers

the specific project i was given was not as interesting as i would have liked

Advice to Potential Interns

if you're applying for data engineering, understand what it is - i thought it would be more ml based, but it's basically creating data pipelines using tools like kafka connect and spark to do so
