Audit Intern NYC

5.0 of 5 stars

New York, NY | March 2015 | FORMER INTERN

Uppers

You meet so many great people from diverse backgrounds. You get to go to Deloitte University which is mostly a fun time. There are also numerous intern events throughout the summer which are also mostly fun. The pay is also the hourly equivalent of a first year associate. Plus no overtime, because they would rather not pay you overtime.

Downers

You don't really get too much exposure to actual audit work. You also don't get told the brutal truth about the hours these people work. Most people try to sugarcoat things and make things sound all fine and dandy at Deloitte. Make sure to do your homework before accepting any offer.

Comments

You need a good GPA, at the very minimum 3.0 but preferably 3.2 or higher. They also like extra curriculars but also leadership roles in those groups/clubs. You have to make sure to do some networking at your school's business events because you'll tend to see similar faces. This way when they review your resume they can put a face to the name.

Absolute best way to apply and improve upon your current accounting knowledge

4.8 of 5 stars

Chicago, IL | 2014 | VERIFIED INTERN

The respect given to you as an intern; The team's willingness to include you at all costs; The overall size of office and the networking opportunities associated; The rate and efficiency of learning how to apply a variety of skills.

Downers

Work-life balance is a bit out of whack to say the least; Go in expecting to live in a cube and you'll be pleasantly surprised - seriously!

Advice to Potential Interns

Long as you're truly aware of what to expect between the efforts and time commitment, you're golden. Takes a truly dedicated individual to excel in this position. Worth it in the end!!

The teams treat you like a true member of the team, and not an intern. You get first hand work and contribute to the overall audit.

Downers

There can be potential for lots of downtime.

Advice to Potential Interns

It comes down to personality with the Big 4 firms. Pick whichever firm fits your personality best, that's what I did, and it was the best decision I've made in my life.

Advice to Management

I think one area of improvement comes with employee recognition. It's very nice to get verbally thanked for your exceptional work, but at a point, with the amount of hours worked during busier times, financial compensation would be appreciated as well.

A learning experience that motivates you to continue working hard in school and strive to reach your career goals with the firm.

Boca Raton, FL | 2014 | VERIFIED INTERN

Uppers

The best aspect of the internship was working with different teams and actually getting hands on work that first year employees work on as well.

Downers

My least favorite about the internship was working on a client with multiple other interns because I feel as though there was no enough work for everyone so some received more work than others.

Advice to Potential Interns

As a candidate you should see if you would fit into Deloitte's culture and if you could spend hours, days, months and years with the other employees who work with the company.

Advice to Management

The training and explanations from the higher up staff to the lower level staff really helps the job get done correctly and helps the lower level staff have a higher understanding of the process taking place.
