The Boston Consulting Group Summer Internship Program

The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) is a global management consulting firm and the world's leading advisor on business strategy. Founded in 1963, BCG is a private firm comprised of 6000 consultants in 78 offices in 43 countries, with 2012 revenues of $3.7 billion. BCG partners with clients in all sectors, industries and regions to identify their highest-value opportunities, address their most critical challenges and transform their businesses. BCG's expertise spans a variety of functional and industry practices.

BCG consultants come from a variety of backgrounds, reflecting the diversity of perspective we value. Most assignments involve one or more teams of three to six BCGers. A BCG team may combine consultants with relevant technical and industry backgrounds with others who have functional and strategic skills. We also strive to incorporate a mix of seniority and skills to balance the capabilities needed for the project with a sound budget plan. We create value by customizing our approach to complement client capabilities and the issues at hand.

We believe consulting is a process, not a product. Our goal is to guide, develop, facilitate, and enrich each client's strategy development and transformation processes. Our consulting practice depends on close teamwork between the client's organization and our staff. Clients often remark that a valuable and unusual aspect of working with BCG is the firm's commitment to joint discovery of insights and strategies, which is carried through to achieving tangible impact, while also building the experience base and skills of the client's organization.

BCG's low "leverage ratio" of non-partners to partners facilitates an active apprenticeship model for our consultants and interns. The BCG culture is characterized by open engagement and constructive debate, where "ideas trump tenure" and every team member has an active voice. This culture and non-hierarchical environment is rooted in BCG's heritage and is an important component of the BCG experience.

BCG hires summer interns in all of our North American offices, typically for 10-week internships. The goal of the summer program is to give summer interns an opportunity to get to know our business and our people well, and to make a meaningful contribution to our work. Our summer interns will be full members of a case team, with a work module similar to what they will receive as full time consultants and associates, typically including extensive client contact and close working relationships with BCG partners and principals. We provide our summer interns with extensive training and development opportunities including a structured coaching and development process. Social and affiliation events are a part of the intern experience, helping our interns build connections and affiliation with BCGers from day one.

BCG offers our consultants and interns unparalled opportunities for both personal and professional growth and development. No two experiences are alike, and our people acquire skills that position them for success within and outside of BCG. As such, BCG has received numerous recognitions, including ranking in the top 5 on FORTUNE magazines rigorous "Best Companies to Work For" list for the past three years.
