A.T. Kearney is a global team of insightful, innovative, collaborative experts that nurtures its people to deliver creative, meaningful and, above all, sustainable results. We provide original results, rightly suited to our clients' challenges, to help them achieve both their immediate and long-term business objectives. Consequently, we seek individuals with a proven record that combines academic excellence with significant work experience. We emphasize the personal and professional development of our Associates by involving them in a variety of assignments, supporting them with a strong performance management program and offering a full curriculum of courses. Our Associates are challenged to deliver valuable insights as they help clients identify, analyze, and solve business problems across a wide range of industries.

The Summer Associate program involves participants in all phases of the consulting process across a wide range of industries. As fully participating members of a consulting team, Summer Associates are provided with the opportunity to contribute ideas, opinions and new information. Together with experienced consultants, they develop models, perform complex analyses, and work on data-gathering assignments, both at client sites and in the office. Summer Associates typically travel while on assignment to work side-by-side with our clients and client teams. During the program, participants gain experience with significant issues and help develop solutions that have a substantial impact on the client's business.

Program Description. The program begins with an orientation to the local office and an introduction to consulting at A.T. Kearney, where participants become familiar with the necessary tools and methodologies needed for their summer engagements. These sessions include information about A.T. Kearney's strategic direction, practice areas, and industry groups. Summer Associates are paired with A.T. Kearney consultants who serve as mentors, providing guidance throughout the summer's activities. Mentors stay actively involved with the Summer Associate and their project managers throughout the engagement. Mid-term reviews are conducted to provide the Summer Associate with information and direction regarding their performance. Throughout the program, Summer Associates enjoy a series of office and social events where they can meet other A.T. Kearney employees and, at the same time, learn about areas of the firm and industry practices to which they have not yet been exposed.

Summer Associate Contributions. At A.T. Kearney, no two client engagements are identical. Each requires unique insights and offers unique challenges. The following are successful outcomes our Summer Associates have helped clients achieve:

  • Participated in the post-merger integration of two global specialty chemical manufacturers whose combined revenues exceeded $6.5 billion
  • Improved the operational efficiency of a large utilities company to deliver shareholder value and ward off a hostile takeover bid.
  • Assisted in the strategic design of new sales force compensation plans to better align a leading insurance company's strategy with its performance targets and individual incentives.
  • Analyzed purchases of over $500M from a top supplier for a supply chain re-engineering project at a global high technology company and worked with purchasing staff to consolidate and reduce complexity to achieve purchasing savings.
