About URS Energy & Construction Internship Journey Program

URS Corporation is a fully integrated engineering, construction and technical services organization with the capabilities to support every stage of the project life cycle. URS is ranked #248 on FORTUNE's List of America's 500 Largest Companies with over 60,000 employees in 40 different counties. It is the #2 Top Design Firm by ENR. Our work is focused in five key market sectors: Federal, Oil & Gas, Infrastructure, Power, and Industrial.

The Energy and Construction Division manages the Internship Journey Program during the summer. The college relations team visited 30 focus school career fairs this year and received 5,000 applications. 150 students were selected to support 25 locations domestically and internationally.

During the summer program, students are challenged on a three month long journey to complete several passport challenges. These include interviewing several subject matter experts within the company and in turn, managers stamp their passport booklet with their business cards. This promotes networking and knowledge transfer across the various disciplines of the company. In addition, students participate in a Kick-Off Welcome Call presented through video-conference technology hosted by the president of the division.

Throughout the summer, interns are versed on topics such as finance, economics, cutting edge applications, and award winning projects through Leadership Presentation Live Meeting Series by Executive Management. Other perks of the program include a Samsung Galaxy Tablet drawing at the end of the summer, a Who's Who Booklet of all the summer interns, and an opportunity to apply for a URS funded Scholarship. To enroll in the scholarship, students must submit an application along with their college transcript, a manager recommendation, a statement of interest essay.

The last assignment is the Passport Final Deliverable. Interns prepare an End of the Year Presentation and provide a comprehensive summary of their summer project activity, lessons learned, and explanation on how they would make a great fit for URS in the future. Executive management and their entire departments are invited to attend.

At the conclusion of the summer, performance evaluations are submitted by each manager with the intent for those with positive feedback to be extended an opportunity to return for an additional internship the following year or be offered full- time employment upon graduation. The goal is to extend these offers before the intern leaves at the end of the summer.

This is a paid internship that is typically 10-12 weeks in duration during the summer months.
